8 Tips on How To Be More Mindful ~

Now that we are coming up against ever more demanding environments, we are not really given much choice but to keep up. People from different walks of life have varying ways to cope with life’s demands; however, to be able to function properly and maximize your full potential, mindfulness practice is quite essential. So we present you our 8 tips on how to be more mindful at any moment!

Mindfulness is not just an activity of deep breathing, clearing the mind, and being in the moment. Continual mindfulness practice can, in fact, improve one’s overall well being, including lower blood pressure and heart rate, improved immune system, improved digestion, higher brain function, lower stress levels, improved sleep quality, and so much more. In addition, mindfulness practice can also help establish a deeper connection with yourself and can also assist in building better relationships.

Mindfulness may not be that easy to achieve in the beginning, but it will eventually come naturally to you through regular practice and some helpful tips!


1. Incorporate mindfulness into your daily activities

Mindfulness can be practiced anytime and anywhere. It is important that we learn to incorporate mindfulness into everything we do, and not only during the times when we are in solitude or enjoying our own company. By teaching yourself to be mindful all the time, you’ll learn how to manage your feelings of stress and anxiety in various challenging situations. Try bringing this mindfulness when you first hear your alarm clock ring, when you take that first sip of coffee, while you eat, while you work.


2. BUT, do not overdo it.

Including mindfulness in your daily routine is a good practice, but overdoing it might be too stressful, which is the opposite of our goal. Try to keep it to a minimum, maybe start with a couple of times a day, rather than pushing ourselves to prolong the practice.


3. Discover the best time to do it.

Especially if you’re just beginning the process, make sure you are comfortable and in the best state when practicing to be mindful. Try to find a relaxing time to get you started and to remind you constantly. For example, try to focus on your senses and be aware of your breathing everytime you take a sip of your favorite morning beverage, each time you walk on your way to the gym, or everytime you take a hot shower after a long day at work.


4. Be mindful of your body

Focus on your breathing and be aware of your body movements periodically during the day. By practicing mindful breathing, you will eventually learn how to relax and be conscious of your thoughts, feelings, and sensations. When your mind, body, and senses coordinate, you are paying more attention to the here and now. When you zero in on the present, you’ll feel more relaxed and untroubled.


5. Learn to release tension

Stress and anxiety put too much pressure on our bodies, and learning how to release tension can bring us a step closer to be more mindful. When you allow the strain to clear out, you permit yourself to breathe and you eventually bring yourself back to a state of awareness.


6. Eat mindfully

To be able to practice mindfulness when you eat, learn to be fully aware and carefully select what you eat. By eating mindfully, you put on your thinking cap and reflect on the foods that are good for your health, the amount of food you need, where your ingredients are sourced, and how your meals are processed and prepared. Once you’ve become quite mindful of what you eat, this can provide amazing benefits to our overall well being.


7. Sleep mindfully

Try to get a good night’s sleep everyday. Before going to bed, relax your body and mind and avoid activities that would interrupt your sleeping patterns, including working before sleeping, checking social media on your phone, and watching TV. If you can’t sleep, try doing a mindfulness exercise, by focusing on your breathing and becoming fully aware of your body sensations. Be mindful of the present, and do not let your mind wander alone… Rather, take control and just get it back on track. Remember that good quality sleep is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle – it can affect your mind, your body, your thoughts and your attitude.


8. Meditate

While others think that mindfulness practice is meditation, they are not actually one and the same. Mindfulness can actually be practiced through meditation. If truth be told, learning meditation can better assist you in fully grasping mindfulness. As mentioned previously, while it would be really helpful to incorporate this practice in your daily routine, having a clear and relaxed mind is truly beneficial once in a while.
